Alamkuh hiking Iran

After the single volcanic cone of Mt. Damavand that rises to 5671 m (see below), the Takhte Soleyman Massif contains the highest peaks of Central Alborz (and the only place where the elevation of the peaks exceeds 4400 m). The crest of the massif consists of a 19 km long ridgeline that runs (unlike the rest of the ridgelines in Central Alborz) north-south and is entirely above 4000 m. Two branch ridgelines (the Haft Khan and the Chaloon/Siah Kaman ridgelines) bring the total length of the interconnected ridgelines that are entirely above 4000 m to 30 km (there are other connecting ridgelines that are partially above 4000 m).

Deep “V-shaped” valleys that surround the massif to the east, north and west of it, are heavily forested and drop steeply to the Caspian Sea. Sheer walls and high “U-shaped” valleys point to extensive glacial activity in the area. In fact, the massif contains the largest collection of glaciers in Iran.

There are 160 peaks that are higher than 4000 m.  There are at least twenty peaks higher than 4400 m that probably meet the rule of 91 meters as listed below.

All about the Alamkouh (4860 M) hiking – 4 Days.

Alamkuh – Mount Alam – is a mountain in Alborz mountain range in north of Iran, Mazandaran Province, forming a peak of Takht-e Suleyman Massif. It is located in Kelardasht Districtof Mazandaran Province of Iran. With an elevation of 4860 meters, it is the second highest peak in Iran after Mount Damavand .The first recorded ascent of the Alamkuh  peak was made from Hesarchal over the south face by the German brothers Bornmüller during their six-month botanical exploration of the Alborz in 1902.Douglas Busk, a British mountaineer, climbed Alam-Kuh via the east ridge in 1933 and again in 1934 from over the west ridge. The 800 m high, steep granite north face provides some of the most difficult and interesting mountaineering routes in the country and the climbs rank alongside major climbing routes in the European Alps. In addition to local climbers, the north face attracts European climbing teams. The first known ascent from the north was by a German party (Gorter/Steinauer) in 1936 via the northwest ridge. Subsequently, French and Polish teams established other routes on the north face during the 1960s and 1970, these being multi-day routes of high alpine standard. A British team followed with a successful ascent in 1978. The first winter ascent of the north face was made by Mohammad Nouri in 1991.

Many thanks to Hesam for the trip! It was a true pleasure to do hiking with him. He Taligent us breathing techniques, how to go slowly and keep the energy up to the end. That was the first experience of going like that. In the end of hiking we reached the pick of Alam-Kuh mountain(4800), it was amazing and due to Hesam and his techniques, wasn’t that difficult. Hesam is very friendly, caring, with great sense is humour. He told us interesting things about Iran, Iranians, their history and religious events, answered all our questions, which is really precious when you come to the country with reach culture, it’s vitally important to understand things around, and Hesam was perfect story-teller. Special thing is that Hesam organized overnights at local houses (with opportunity to take a shower after hiking!) with local people who cooked local food for us, truly unique experience! That was one of the most interesting holidays we had!
